Explore Landscapes of Enchantment, Take to the Skies, and Tour New Mexico

By Christian Burney

For over twenty-five years, Tour New Mexico, Inc. has organized group events and tours in the Land of Enchantment, and introducing visitors to beautiful destinations like Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands National Park. "The main inspiration was to do what we love," says Tour New Mexico, Inc. owner, Tamara (Tam) Chavez. "Our goal is to showcase the true people, land, and nature.""

And Tour New Mexico, Inc. is more than just your average touring company. "We thrive on designing and running custom group tours for experiences that are very unique and personal," says Tam. Tour New Mexico works with its customers to provide them with precisely the trip they want, working out itineraries, hotel accommodations, and prioritizing attractions in a flexible way that accommodates any given budget or schedule.

During the annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta presented by Canon, scheduled for October 3-11 this year, TNM will offer round-trip transportation between select hotels and the fiesta with a closed route pass, circumventing public traffic and making the obligatory tour bus ride quick and comfortable. The touring company will provide general admission tickets at a discounted price to help get tourists past the gates- where they can meet with balloonists, attend a concert after a cool drink in the Beer Garden, and ultimately enjoy the view as colorful hot air balloons fill the sky.

If the Balloon Fiesta sounds like little more than a gush of hot air, there are plenty of quieter activities to pursue. "Even though Albuquerque is the state's largest city (over half a million), it does not take long to drive or walk to a quiet place," Tam explains. The still foothills of Sandia Mountain are a great location to relax and contemplate the region's natural beauty.

"How do we begin to describe the beauty of our landscapes?" asks Tam. "Our minds have such trouble with geologic time. Can you imagine how a layer of sandstone gets a layer of lava rock on top of it and that volcanic rock has yet another layer of sandstone?"

Whether you find yourself atop a silent volcanic spatter cone or you're touring Navajoland for a glimpse into the lives of the Native American Navajo, the region's distinct character will be thereto charm you. And, with Tour New Mexico, Inc., so will the passion of their tour guides and the ease of well-run itineraries.

Before groups journey with Tour New Mexico, Inc. they read an itinerary and they see very popular attractions that simply cannot be excluded; the Turquoise Museum, the Sandia Peak Tramway, shopping on Santa Fe Plaza. After the tour, whether one day or multiple days, they return home fulfilled and refreshed by a touring experience of sights, shopping and sunshine but more importantly filled with an unexpected connection to the land, the people and the culture that truly makes New Mexico the Land of Enchantment and which Tour New Mexico, Inc.

And, with Tour New Mexico, so will Chavez. "What is that rustling sound you hear?" she asks. "A lizard or stink bug rummaging for food? Cottontail rabbits doing what rabbits do? Or perhaps a prairie or western diamondback rattlesnake convincing itself that you are more scared of him than he is of you!"

Tour New Mexico operates with a deep compassion for the natural landscapes, animals, and people of New Mexico. Sharing these majestic experiences with the world is the driving force behind Tamara Chavez- and all it takes it a tour through the Land of Enchantment to see why.
