Torinos' @ Home: Fresh and Simple Italian Food

By Ryan Rushton

When you think of Albuquerque, you might think of Breaking Bad, the Rio Grande Valley, or mountain biking through the Sandia Mountains.

What you might not know is that Albuquerque is also dishing out some of the best cuisine in the country. From the area, you would expect great and authentic Mexican fare, but Torinos' @ Home is your stop for northern Italian cuisine!

Chef Maxime Bouneou runs Torinos' @ Home with his wife Daniela. They are first generation immigrants from Southern France and Northern Italy, respectively, who came to the country twelve years ago. Bouneou notes that both he and his wife started to work in the restaurant industry at very early ages: age 15 for him and 13 for Daniela.

Everything at Torinos' @ Home is made fresh. Bouneou tells us: "We make absolutely everything from scratch from the best available ingredients, we source produce locally, as well as fresh meats and our cheeses and cured meats are imported from the best craftsmen in Italy."

With the menu changing often, the chef couldn't really narrow down his favorite dish. His favorites include the: "Antipasto platter, Gnocchi spezzatino, Agnolotti calamari diavola, Squid Ink Pasta, and the Beef Cheek Manicotti." Basically, it's hard to go wrong!

Torinos' @ Home was voted among the top four of the best Italian restaurants nationwide by Food Network in 2013. Guy Fieri even featured the joint his TV show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.

Ultimately, Chef Bouneou's love and passion for Italian food shines in his dishes. "Italian food," he explains, "is extremely simple in essence and focuses largely on ingredients' quality. The richness and quality of the selected ingredients, along with the thousands of years of culture rooted in Italian cuisine, make it so unique."
