The Home Remodel Timeline: An Interview with Brad Ballard of Animas Valley Construction

By Brad Ballard

Tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

We started in 1999 building houses and have been doing that ever since. We do new construction, remodels, additions, budget consultation, construction management, site evaluation and planning, and landscaping. We are licensed, bonded and insured. Our motto is "From the Ground Up." Whatever you need, we can build it.

When a homeowner is working with a contractor, how is the remodeling budget created and maintained?

We work with the homeowner from start to finish to create a budget that fits their specific needs. Our years of experience help to minimize cost and maximize quality.

What are the basic steps involved in a home remodel and which ones typically takes the longest?

Planning and bidding is the most important part, as it makes the rest of the project go smoothly. It takes the longest but if done right, will help expedite the rest of the process. If any demolition is needed, we will start there, move on to framing and finish work.

What is one of the biggest challenges that people in the Farmington area face when they're having their house remodeled?

The biggest challenge in our area is product availability. Since we are not in a big city, it takes a few days sometimes to get supplies. Planning ahead is very important.

What are two or three of the most common reasons why building and remodeling a home might take longer than expected?

Working in the building industry is like timing an orchestra; everyone must play their part at the right time or it will not work properly. We do our best to schedule things ahead of time so that each milestone in the project does not take longer than expected.

How can homeowners better prepare themselves and their home for a home remodeling project?

The best thing for a homeowner to do is be flexible. Remodeling or building a house can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for anyone with the right attitude. We strive for integrity, respect, quality and good service with all of our clients so you have less to worry about.

What's the best way for people to contact you and your company?
