Santa Fe Paws Keeps Tails Wagging and Pet Owners Happy

By Pamela Sosnowski

Since it opened its doors in 2014, one thing that has helped set Santa Fe Paws apart from nationally known, big name pet supplies store chains is service. Online reviewers rave about the staff's friendliness and knowledge, as well as the variety of pet food, toys, treats, and accessories?many of which are made by companies local to the Santa Fe area.

States co-owner Fran Lucero on the shop's website, "Santa Fe Paws should be about happy customers, happy furry friends, and great community events to bring every pet owner together!"

The store even offers curbside service where a customer simply has to call with their requested list of items, and a shop employee will bring their order directly to the parking lot. Delivery is also available throughout Santa Fe, for no charge.

"Our business is locally owned," says one of the store's owners, Joe Grine. "When we purchased Santa Fe Paws Pet Food store close to two years ago our main focus was to carry the healthiest food and to expand the variety as every pet's needs are different. We do carry some accessories but mostly pet food for dogs and cats."

The store's pet food selection shies away from the usual labels commonly found on supermarket shelves, instead carrying brands such as Wellness, Merrick, Natural Balance, Fromm, and many more that use authentic ingredients. Grine says that most of the store's best selling products are food by those companies, as well as treats by Stella & Chewy, Happy Hips arthritis supplements that contain glucosomine, and Tropiclean to help keep dogs' teeth clean.

"We carry supplements and many ask us for toothpaste for their pets," says Grine. "I offer the suggestion of Tropiclean liquid that you place in their water bowls and it removes the tartar and freshens their breath. Many of our treats provide added vitamins for their aching bones. We also carry some first aid supplies."

Santa Fe Paws also believe in community involvement and supporting local companies, which is why many of the products found on their shelves are made in the Santa Fe area. The store hosts special events throughout the year where guest speakers including animal rescue workers, veterinarians, and authors are invited to discuss pet care, nutrition, obedience tips, and more. Some of the events help raise donations for local animal shelters and local nonprofit organizations. The first Saturday of each month is Small Dog Adoption Day at Santa Fe Paws.

Santa Fe Paws is open seven days a week and of course, pets are welcome in the store. With its service and selection, the shop hopes to keep tails wagging and pet owners happy for many years to come.
