Jubilee at Los Lunas: Convenience, Courts, and Community for Active Adults

By Elizabeth R. Elstien

Staying active is what this adult community is all about. A 20-minute drive north to Albuquerque, Jubilee at Los Lunas is conveniently located to big-city resources and entertainment, yet provides a great escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. In fact, it was named Top 100 Best Places to Retire and Community of the Year.

Residents can build a brand new customized home through Avalon Builders, with a range of layout, amenity and color options. New homes start at $199,950. Granite countertops and GE appliances come as standards in each house. Plus, Jubilee has won awards for its construction and boasts a 99 percent customer-approval rating.

Jubilee's Susan Halsor notes that most activities are "centered in and around our luxurious 11,000 square foot Villa, home to expansive patios, a large gathering room, bar, card rooms, billiard room, fitness center, dance and exercise rooms, pool, hot tub, bocce ball courts, archery range and a multipurpose court accommodating tennis, basketball and pickleball." The latter is a game in between tennis and badminton where a solid paddle is used to hit a wiffle-type ball over a net.

The sunshine-filled days, azure blue skies and mild weather year-round are also a perk of high-desert living, and outdoor activities abound. Jubilee is adjacent to open space, golf courses, and the El Cerro Mountains for fantastic hiking. Halsor details, "With walking and biking trails that meander throughout the community, our residents can access the great outdoors directly from their homes."

City life is not far. Aside from Albuquerque's allure, residents can hop on the Rail Runner Express right from the community, as it goes directly to historic downtown Santa Fe for shopping, sightseeing or touring the art galleries and museums.

You can also head south towards Las Cruces and explore White Sands National Monument or Carlsbad Caverns National Park for day or overnight trips. Check out the incredible hot springs in Truth or Consequences or the mystery-making alien invasion spot in Roswell.

One of Jubilee's principles, Ron Cobb, says, "Our goal was to create a community where residents can make meaningful choices about the homes they build and the lives they live." With attention to detail, an abundance of activities for fun and fitness, and even knowing that the front yard will be maintained, Jubilee at Los Lunas has created a community for active adults to call home.
