Grace Note Massage Shares the Restorative Power of Touch

By Pamela Sosnowski

If two heads are better than one as the old saying goes, then are four hands better than two when it comes to massages? Timothy Campbell and Irina Sels, the husband and wife team behind Grace Note Massage of Santa Fe believe so.

"As a couple working together we consistently bring healthy, grounding energy to our sessions and our specialty '4 hands massage' merges feminine and masculine energies in a delightfully sensual way," explains Campbell. "(It's) a truly unique opportunity for a nurturing and grounding experience."

Campbell and Sels opened their home-based massage spa after realizing their previous careers were unfulfilling and they wanted to explore more meaningful ways of giving back to others. Both are certified in various massage and healing therapies and have mastered variations of massage including deep tissue, Swedish, myofascial release, Thai massage and Zen Shiatsu. Although their business is based in Santa Fe, they can also bring their mobile spa services to a customer's residence. Their website says their massages can "restore balance and improve energy flow."

Once limited to luxury spas and thought of as accessible only to the wealthy, massage therapy can now be found being offered everywhere including businesses and airports. The general definition of massage is the pressing, rubbing and manipulating of skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments with the purposes of improving one's physical and emotional health. Studies have found that massage can be therapeutic for relieving everything from headaches to stress-related insomnia.

Some of the techniques Campbell and Sels specialize in include Vishnu Journey, which is the four-handed massage, Hot Stone (where heated river rocks help melt away stress), and Reflexology, which incorporates stimulating acupressure points in the feet, hands and ears that affect internal organs and areas of the body. A couples' massage is also available to share the gift of relaxation with someone special.

Grace Note Massage also performs Medical Message therapy to help patients recover from medical conditions that have been diagnosed by a physician. In many cases this therapy is covered by insurance if referred by a doctor.

In addition to massage, the spa also specializes in pampering treatments from head to toe including body wraps, hot oil scalp treatments, and facials that feature organic, all natural ingredients. "We also do herbal wraps and scrubs for skin care," adds Campbell.

Dozens of satisfied clients have written testimonials about Grace Note Massage's services, and the couple is proud of the satisfaction they've given through the transformative and healing power of touch. Says Campbell, "We're passionate about our work, dedicated to getting results and always delight in witnessing the transformations that can take place in such a short time."
