Get Serious About Your Health with the Help of Santa Fe's Undisputed Fitness

By S. Mathur

With a range of fitness classes like 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, Cardio Kickboxing, Self Defense, Strongman, CrossFit, and Undisputedly Fit (an express bootcamp class) and a serious attitude to health and fitness, Undisputed might come across as an intimidating gym. But in fact the coaches are professional and down to earth, and members are both committed and welcoming. For both long-term members and visitors who stop by for a single class, Undisputed has become known as the place to go for a workout in Santa Fe.

The gym began as a mixed martial arts training facility and quickly grew to meet the needs of the community at large. Owner Tait Fletcher explains the transformation process:

"We originally decided to open Undisputed due to the interest of the public. There was a void of functional movement based fitness in Santa Fe and Undisputed filled that void. Coming from a professional athletic background, Fletcher knew how potent this dynamic could be if a community were contrived that spoke to higher standards, and voila- Undisputed Fitness was born!!"

After retiring from his career as a professional mixed martial arts fighter, Tait pursued his acting and stunt career in television and feature films.Tait still wanted to train jiu jitsu but also needed a place to train in a broad domain of functional fitness. That is when he added CrossFit to Undisputed's offerings. His personal goals shift with age, he says.

"I want to be functional and performance oriented for all the days I walk this earth. I KNOW that I won't be unless I honor my body and self by paying attention to it. I find this to be transcendent into all aspects of my life, as the striving towards these goals has extreme spiritual significance."

As a coach and athlete, his inspiration is the belief that "our purpose is to make each other the best we can be in this life. It's a big part of my life because it's my duty and responsibility to my community as a citizen." He believes that coaches must be empathetic, offer structure and accountability, and listen to members, since each athlete is different.

Heather McKearnan, Communications Manager, Event Coordinator, and CrossFit Coach says that "All that's required is an open mind and the willingness to TRY and be consistent. We will be right there with you and guarantee results -- GUARANTEE." CrossFit is the most popular and prevelant program, with six classes a day. Newcomers are offered a free introductory session and all fitness levels are welcomed. An added attraction is the Caveman Coffee Cave in the same building with the famous butter coffee which boasts numerous health benefits. Caveman Coffee is a locally roasted, hand picked, single origin coffee company owned by Tait Fletcher, retired UFC Fighter Keith Jardine, and Lacie Mackey.

The Kids Jiujitsu program is successful too, teaching kids skill, discipline, accountability, coordination, and respect. One parent reports that her six- year old daughter went from being bullied at school to being able to stand up for herself and others.
