Finding A Healing Touch At Transcendence Massage

By S. Mathur

Massage is a therapeutic treatment for chronic pain, stress and injuries. It's also an excellent health care routine that can actually help to prevent all of these problems from happening in the first place. Liz Farr has been a Licensed Massage Therapist (NM #5687) since 2007 and opened Transcendence Massage the following year in Albuquerque NM. The location off Lomas is conveniently close to I-40 for a quick stop.

Massage therapy is also used by sports teams to optimize performance, and Farr has plenty of experience in this area. Her specialization is in deep tissue and sports massage.

"Active people who are not in pain find massage is a great way to recover from exercise or improve performance of their favorite sports," she said. "We work with the UNM Track Team and Football Team, as well as many professional athletes. We know how to help people avoid injury and improve their range of motion."

For people suffering from chronic pain in problem areas like the neck, back shoulders and knees, massage therapy can provide relief and is a substitute for invasive surgery.

"Many people find they can reduce the level of daily pain with regular massage treatments," Farr said. "After the initial treatments many people find they can maintain pain relief with an appointment every two weeks or even once a month."

Massage can also help with injuries like Plantar Fasciitiis, IT band issues, and lower back pain. As well as pain management it has benefits like relaxation, better sleep, lower blood pressure, and an overall feeling of well being. This makes it an alternative to prescription medications with all their problematic side effects.

Other therapies offered at Transcendence Massage include hot stone massage and cupping massage. Kinesio taping allows clients to continue the treatment at home, by loosening the fascia in problem areas, or by supporting stressed joints. It helps in the treatment of sprains, shoulder, lower back and hip pain, and Plantar Fasiciitis and Achilles' tendon problems.

Massage is also preventative health care, and the massage therapist can identify and correct stress and tension in problem areas before injuries happen or illness appears.

"Muscles are often the cause of pain because that's where the most nerves and pain receptors are, so relaxing the muscles can help even if there are other root causes to the pain," Farr said. "I love helping people and I love working with my hands so massage is a perfect fit. Its great to do what you love and be able to help people at the same time."
