By Chris Probst

Please tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

I have been in the electrical trade for 20 years. I have worked in the residential, commercial and industrial areas. I started with residential electrical back in the 90s. I wanted to know more and when the economy dropped I went to work for a larger company where I learned a lot about different lighting. I was the service manager and really enjoyed what I did. I have a strong understanding of the electrical trade. I enjoy working with people to help them get a better understanding of what the may want with their electrical installation.

What are some of the most common lighting services that Santa Fe homeowners are requesting?

Many times people aren't sure of what they want when it comes to lighting, Here in Santa Fe many are leaning toward energy efficiency lighting. So LED is becoming more common. Changing out old fixtures or even lighting retrofits to their existing recess lights to accommodate LED lighting. Recess lighting of various sizes can make a room change in a way that its not only for the rich and famous. With the right lighting controls, dimmers and motion sensors, it is easy for the homeowner to get the most out of their lighting needs. Never having to worry about the kids leaving the lights on again.

Is there something that most people don't know about the electrical work involved with indoor/outdoor lighting that they should know?

I believe landscape lighting helps bring out the beauty of one's home. For many that want to hang out outside in the evening to enjoy the wonderful Santa Fe air. To see a well-lit pathway or to see the beautiful plants and trees in the night time, there are many different lighting fixtures available today. LED gives off a cool light that is low in cost to run and they last for many years to come. Security lighting is also very nice to have around the house. It helps keep unwanted guests out and helps welcome home the homeowner as they return at night.

What are the best options for indoor lighting in areas that people want to be brightly lit?

LED has come along way and with energy consumption being something we all should be aware of. It helps bring down the cost of our electrical bills and at the same time brightens up our living space. Cabinet lighting, both under and over, bring out the details to a kitchen, making countertops look more three dimensional.

What is the basic process from start to finish of installing new lighting, and how long does it typically take?

Getting to know a client is a start. Getting a feel for what they want in every room helps me design what they are looking for. From a room full of family pictures, to the art brought home from downtown Santa Fe. Weather it's track lighting they are looking for or lights to hang down around the breakfast bar, sometimes a ceiling fan with lights is what they are looking for to cool of a sitting room. Each Job varies in size. From a simple retrofit to relocating new fixtures. Projects depending on what someone is looking for can run several days, sometimes There is drywall repair involved to get the proper lighting whether it is a wall sconce or several recess light fixtures.

What would you recommend for interior lighting to help make a room more comforting?

I guess all in all it is important to see what Is needed to make a room stand out as a place we just love to just relax in and read a book. Or a place we go to entertain some friends. I believe lighting helps see a mode and can make most rooms more enjoyable.
