Carl D Parker Dares You To Sweat at MOVE!

Retirement is pending for Carl D. Parker, but he has no plans of slowing down. He'll just keep moving.

"Our goal is for everyone to have fun while they're MOVEing," reads a portion of the mission statement on, the website for Parker's endeavor.

A student of martial arts for over 40 years, Parker purchased Studio Sway in Albuquerque, N.M. last October, a workout studio which offers endless amounts of aerobic dance and fitness classes. Upon buying the studio, he changed the name to Move!

"It's a small, friendly studio with a relaxed atmosphere," the owner said, adding that Move! has 'the best suspended floor system in the state.'

Parker said that he needed an outlet for his time with his retirement looming, and the opportunity to purchase the studio was perfect. Move! offers Nia, MixxedFit and Ecstatic Dance, as well as an African dance class and a Haitian fusion class that both featuring live drumming. A turbo-kick class is offered on Tuesday nights.

Workout warriors of all ages are welcome at Move!; the Music Together classes on Thursday and Friday mornings offers parents a way to expose their toddlers to music. Parker hopes that self-defense and martial arts classes, as well as body weight strength training classes, are a part of the future at Move!

"With our wide range of class types and times, clients can always find a class that meets their schedule," Parker said.

Move! is available to be rented, meaning instructors from the outside may use the 1,500 square-foot space for their own private classes.
