Array Is The Modern-Day Mercantile

By Elisha Neubauer

Wanting to stand out from the crowd, Array, located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, embraces the concept that shopping should be an adventure.

Focusing on one goal, Array tries to keep things fresh, interesting, and civilized. Simultaneously, the shop strives to offer only the best in customer service.

Calling themselves a modern-day mercantile, the shop offers an ever-changing array (pun intended!) of objects useable for both the home and for gifting to others. The product assortment is a constant of change, making every trip new, exciting, and a one of a kind experience. You'll never know what you're going to find within the walls of Array.

"One never knows what discoveries await," co-owners Larry Redelin and Tom Stark said. "We're always on the prowl for new treasures, so our product assortment is in constant flux."

While the contents of the shop continue to morph and change over time, there are a few items that seem to make popular and frequent appearances. Santa Rosa church candles from Mexico, Abyss towels from Portugal, hand-blown glass from Simon Pearce, beautiful home accessories from Jan Barboglio and Santa Fe's best selection of greeting cards have been known to reappear within the shop's unique space.

One of the biggest draws to the co-owners when hunting for product is the uniqueness of the object. They can't resist something that stands above the rest of the mass-produced products available in the retail market today.

"We love objects that have been touched by human hands and the creative spirit," the co-owners said. "We are in awe of the imagination of artists and artisans. We lean towards the organic, the textural, the sensual, the quirky and the visually stimulating."

The shop's atmosphere itself is as unique as the products contained in its walls. Both Redelin and Stark are known for their whimsy? they are playful, humorous, and have a wild sense of humor. They welcome an assortment of customers into their doors and aim to send everyone home pleased and satisfied? and hopefully with product.

"The most rewarding part of the job entails dealing with our great customers," the pair said.
