A Good Sign is a Cool Print and Design Studio

By S. Mathur

A Good Sign has been described as a really sharp little shop located inside a warehouse doubling as an art gallery. That pretty much sums up the dual character of the print store and its customers.

"A Good Sign has a client base that is pretty much split down the middle between artist customers and customers that order signs & graphics products, owner Tami Abts said." While the artists go for wide format fine art giclée printing and archival photo prints, the commercial customers need outdoor rigid signs, custom cut graphics, stickers, banners and trade show graphics.

A Good Sign is a full-service large format fine art printing and design studio, and that it works very closely with production art and design departments in New Mexico's rapidly expanding film industry.

According to customers, A Good Sign also happens to posses that indefinable but instantly recognizable, quality called cool. Artists and other creative types recognize it, and gravitate towards the studio for their printing needs.

"We do a lot of printing for the film industry, as well as for local artists who are looking to have archival reproductions of their original works they can sell at a lower price point," Abts said. "We've been the proud printers for Breaking Bad, Night Shift, Making a Killing, Better Call Saul, as well as for many other productions, large and small."

Artists who choose A Good Sign include Travis Bruce Black, Wes Naman, Rocky Norton, Dorielle Caimi, Ren Adams, Megan Teeters, Michael Flowers and Tom Lamb. They pick the studio for their projects because of the many facilities offered by the store. This include the wide format printers that can handle just about anything, and the inks and other materials used are the highest quality.

"Our inks are UV resistant and environmentally friendly," Abts said. "Most of our papers and inks are archival for 200+ years. We work great under pressure and love coming up with solutions."

When the studio opened eight years ago, it was a wholesale print shop. It now has an online store and a storefront in the Sanitary Tortilla Factory building. With over 20 years of experience, A Good Sign understands the industry and its demands for a quick turnaround and a great price. They can handle challenges and artists and the film industry receive big discounts.

A Good Sign can handle most jobs, from personal printing projects and business cards to large banners and car wraps. Customers recognize and value the knowledge and professionalism that Abts and her staff bring to the job.
