'From Unique to Antique': Clovis' Best Antiques and Retro Items Found at Penny Lane

By Kelly Church

Offering Clovis, NM's largest collection of antiques, Penny Lane offers everything "from unique to antique." Owner Pat Grah developed her commitment to antiques after living in England during her formative years. She often admired statement pieces that family members had in their homes, and once those became out of style, she started collecting them. After retiring, she opened her dream store, selling everything from furniture to collectables. The store has won Best of Clovis: Best Antique Store every year since 2012.

"Living in England, often I would be taken to visit my great aunt's and other relatives who all had Victorian and Edwardian furniture, beautiful mantel lusters, clocks, oil lamps, paintings [and more] which always fascinated me," Grah says.

"I always thought I would have them in my own home and collect these kinds of items when I was old enough. As the years went by and modern furniture became fashionable, the older heavier Victorian furniture and other items were no longer wanted by many- and disposed of. Collecting these items became my passion and has been for many years."

Since Penny Lane is an antique store and inventory is often in small numbers that comes and goes frequently, what can be found in the store is constantly changing. Pieces in the store are not just hers, but rather a collection of many different vendors that add to its overall variety.

Penny Lane's Facebook page is often updated with what is currently in store. Customers who wander in can find tables, chairs, shelving units, vases, bowls and clocks. There's even a selection of British candy and groceries.

"Areas of the store are divided into booth spaces and used to display furniture - as in period dining rooms, parlour and bedroom settings," Grah says.

People interested consigning through Penny Lane can fill out the vendor application form on Penny Lane's website. Grah also requests that photos are sent to her email address of the items available for consignment. All the necessary information is available online.
